A Family-Friendly Eid in Dubai

2 June 2019

It’s official – we’ve got a week off for Eid Al Fitr this year! As much as we’ll miss Ramadan and all the delicious iftars and suhoors, we can’t wait to enjoy the long, long weekend. From hidden gems to delicious food and staycation deals, here’s our pick of what to do this Eid with family:

1 – Fun Things To Do With Family

Start celebrating the holidays by discovering a hidden gem in the city. We know that keeping the kids entertained in the desert is no easy task, but some friendly sloths, porcupines and monkeys in an indoor rainforest might just might do the trick! Did you know that the Green Planet in Citywalk is the region’s first man-made tropical ecosystem?

The perfect spot for animal lovers, The Green Planet is home to more than 3,000 animals. The indoor rainforest is built around a 25m-tall tree, with parrots and other birds flying overhead, while a waterfall leads to the basement. Watch as stingrays and turtles swim about in the aquarium, or visit the insect exhibit and find ants and, if you’re feeling brave, the world’s largest spiders! Tickets cost AED 99 per person if you buy them at the door, which is why we suggest you buy them online for an AED 10 discount.

The water and theme park deals this summer are enough to get anyone excited about the long weekend. Wild Wadi is offering GCC residents entry including a meal for only AED 149 if you’re under 1.1 meters tall, and AED 249 if you’re over 1.1 meters tall. This is one of those rare times when you’ll be grateful for being short. You can get tickets online from here.

For the first time ever, Aquaventure has launched a 2-day ticket with a bunch of exciting extras thrown in. Other than the 20 waterslides, the 2-day ticket will also grant access to a shark feeding show, unlimited rides on the new surf wave rider, as well as access to the Lost Chambers Aquarium! This will be such an incredible weekend, you almost won’t be jealous of your friends that are travelling this summer… At AED 250 for UAE residents, this 2-day pass is a steal!

The Smash Room in Al Quoz has the ultimate Eid deal ready for a fun family evening out. With four rooms, each accommodating 4-5 people, the Eid package includes 40 glasses with two electronic items the whole family can smash. Visitors will be provided with protective clothing, helmets and gloves. Packages for families start from AED200 for two adults and two children.

2 – Fun At The Mall

The mall is the ideal, air-conditioned haven to be in during this humid weather. If you haven’t watched Aladdin yet – we suggest you add it on your list! The kids will love the movie, and it’ll have you nostalgic for your younger years too.

If you’re not a Disney buff, we’d suggest dropping the kids off at the cinema while you get some shopping done! Eid is the perfect excuse to treat yourself or even buy gifts for friends and family. Mall of the Emirates is right across Citymax Hotel Al Barsha at the Mall, and the mall is giving away AED 5,000 every day. Shop for AED 600 for a chance to win the mall gift cards from June 1 to 8, 2019. The Mall of the Emirates has also organised an interactive Toys Factory show and circus performers to keep young visitors entertained.

There are also amazing deals all summer long. Click here for more details on their new cashback offer.

3 – Eating out

If you’re looking to celebrate Eid with food (and really, who isn’t), head to Claypot in Bur Dubai for a delicious Indian buffet with live music for only AED 59. The best part? Kids under the age of 11 eat for FREE! This offer is valid on Wednesday 5th June and Thursday 6th June from 7pm to midnight. Call 0501007065 to book a table for you and your family.

4 – Light it up!

No matter how long you’ve been in Dubai, fireworks never cease to amaze. Dubai truly raises the bar when it comes to firework displays, and this Eid will be no less. You’ve probably already seen fireworks at Downtown Dubai or The Palm, so why not head to some different spots this year?

Admire the breathtaking views from the Festival Bay at Dubai Festival City, as you can witness the record breaking water show along with the fireworks. You can end the evening with a  traditional boat ride, family activities and a shopping spree while you’re there!
The fireworks at Dubai Festival City are on the first and second days of Eid at 8pm and 10pm.

Fancy watching old Dubai light up with beauty? Head to Al Seef and enjoy the fireworks light up the original Dubai skyline while you take a leisurely abra ride. Fireworks at Al Seef are on the first day of Eid at 9:30pm.

If Old Dubai isn’t your scene, head to La Mer, Jumeirah’s trendiest beachfront. Why not carry a beach mat and let each family member get their favourite food from different restaurants? The ultimate picnic with fireworks in the backdrop! Fireworks at La Mer are on the first day of Eid at 9pm.

5 – Go away on a staycation!

You may not have planned to travel this Eid weekend, but you can easily plan a road trip with family and friends! We’d suggest heading to Ras Al Khaimah since it’s only an hour’s drive from Dubai and temperatures will be much cooler in the mountains than in the city. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not face your fears and cross something off the bucket list this Eid? That’s right, we’re talking about Toroverde – the world’s longest zipline! Tickets are half price this summer – click here to book online.

Ras Al Khaimah may have limited options for food, but we’d suggest check out Claypot for Indian food and The Huddle Sports Bar for pub grub, drinks, live entertainment, and of course – GREAT DEALS!

The new Citymax Hotel Ras Al Khaimah has an amazing Eid staycation deal including breakfast – click here to book your relaxing stay with affordable rooms, award-winning restaurants and a stunning rooftop pool.

Go ahead and make the most out of Dubai this Eid! We wish you wonderful moments of joy, love, and togetherness.
